What is ExfoliationWhat is exfoliation

What is Exfoliation?

  • It is the process of removing dead skin cells from the surface of the skin
  • Skin cells naturally shed every 28 days, but due to increased pollution, overuse of cosmetic products and not washing our skin thoroughly twice a day, it slows down the natural process

The benefits of Exfoliation

  • Helps to prevent clogged pores, resulting in fewer breakouts
  • Regular exfoliating can increase collagen production for glowing, vibrant skin
  • Promotes skin elasticity to minimize the appearance of fine lines
  • It assists skincare products like serums and creams to penetrate better
  • It evens skin tone
  • It boosts circulation

How often should you exfoliate?

Ideally you should exfoliate once or twice a week at home.

You could use a granular or enzymatic exfoliator.

It does not matter if you exfoliate in the morning or the evening.

However, it’s a good idea to exfoliate in the evening as it allows skin to absorb all the product/s and it aids in renewing skin during the night.

Professional resurfacing or exfoliating Peels

  • Dr Gobac® Bellanova Peel is a chemical resurfacing treatment that uses AHA’s, BHA’s and fruit acids
  • Bellanova is designed to break down the connections between skin cells in order to assist in the exfoliation process
  • This amazing treatment has no down-time – i.e. peeling of the skin – and provides benefits such as –
    • Improving skin texture/roughness
      • uneven skin tone
      • dull skin
    • Reducing fine lines and wrinkles
      • pigmentation
      • acne scarring
      • breakouts

Exfoliation tips

  • Do not over-exfoliate, although it is tempting to have bright, smooth and glowing skin every day
  • Over-exfoliation can cause sensitivity, tightness, stinging and an increase in oil production that will make your skin shiny or cause break-outs
  • Don’t exfoliate after chemical peels or professional resurfacing treatments
  • Don’t apply too much pressure when exfoliating with a granular exfoliator

What should you do after exfoliation?

After removing dead skin cells your skin will be susceptible and receiving thus improving the absorption of serums and creams.

  • Gently pat dry your skin
  • Apply your serums to the specific areas
    • Dr Gobac® Lighten on Pigmentation
    • Dr Gobac® Spot TX on Acne or Pimples
